Catch up!

The last post was about the day I arrived which I believe was Wednesday. Thursday was orientation--they gave us coffee and pastries and they were really good. We got our ID cards, passes to get in the building and a Museum card. After lunch we had to meet the apartment representatives and go over the housing rules and she showed us how to turn on the gas for the stove. She also turned on the boiler which made us very happy because that meant we didn't have to take cold showers anymore. Of course, it has been so hot and humid that the cold shower didn't bother me that much. But it is much nicer to have the hot water. The shelf in my closet fell down so they were supposed to fix it but haven't so far.
Today we had orientation again but no coffee or pastries. It was alot more of introductions and telling us what to expect and explaining this and that program. We broke for lunch and went across the river to some of our classmates apartment which is ten times better than ours but we found a good lunch place that serves panini on any bread with any meat, cheese and veggie combination for only 3 euro and they have a punch card. We ate lunch at their house then went back for the rest of the orientation which was mainly telling us about volunteer and interning  opportunities.  Went back to apartment for awhile then back to school at 530 to go on the walking tour of our neighborhood which was really from the school to our apartment so that was good because she showed us things we needed to find and things that were just around the block that we didn't even know about. After that we went back to a little store she showed us, bought the makings for dinner and a few other things and went home and made dinner.  It was great to finally get a few things in the house. I got milk, sugar and coffee. Tea and a tea jug of sorts. salami, cheese and bread. Cookies and I had some fruit from yesterday.  I have to remind myself to write about the coffee experience I had and one last thing before I go for tonight.  I have walked up stairs so much since I have been here.  Things they say are on the 2nd floor are actually on the 3rd because the ground floor is 0 instead of 1. I went up 3 flights of stairs 4 times today and when I came back to the apartment I took the elevator. It was just too much for me!
